How to Add Visa Gift Card to Cash App

Visa gift cards are very popular for a reason, because they’re convenient, flexible, and can be used pretty much anywhere a Visa is accepted. But if you’re here, you’re presumably wondering, Can I use my Visa gift card with Cash App? And it’s common!

A lot of people look for ways to transfer their gift card balance to Cash App for many different personal reasons.

Before you get into how to do it, it’s important to understand that while Visa gift cards are widely accepted, they might not work with certain apps like Cash App, for many different reasons such as restrictions like verification requirements, hidden fees, or low balances.

So without jumping straight into transferring your gift card funds to Cash App, let’s find out whether Cash App supports Visa gift cards and how to add Visa gift card to Cash App.

Does Cash App Support Visa Cards?

You probably are well aware that Cash App allows you to link debit and credit cards from major providers like Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

But even though Visa gift cards are technically a type of prepaid card, Cash App does not officially support this kind of prepaid card, I mean most gift cards.

That means you might not be able to directly add your Visa gift card funds to the Cash App. However, there are indirect ways to transfer your gift card funds into Cash App and we are just about to look into these workarounds…

Methods to Bring Visa Gift Card Funds Into Cash App

The truth is adding funds from your Visa gift cards to the Cash App can be quite tricky. But you can try these ways:

  1. Transfer to a Bank Account
  2. Add to PayPal and transfer to Cash App
  3. Purchase a money order, then deposit it into the Cash App
  4. Or sell your gift cards for cash

#1. Direct deposit using your gift card

Although Cash App doesn’t support direct linking of gift cards you can indirectly use a Visa gift card by transferring its balance to a linked bank account (if the gift card provider allows this).

Again, most Visa gift cards do not support direct deposit functionality because they are not tied to a bank account. Only reloadable prepaid cards (not gift cards) might allow direct deposits, depending on the issuer’s terms.

Hence you’ll need to check if your Visa gift card allows you to transfer funds to a bank account. Some gift card providers have this feature, but not all.

If it’s supported, you’ll need to log in to the gift card provider’s website or app, link your bank account, and initiate a transfer of the remaining balance from your gift card to your bank.

You can start by looking at the back of your Visa gift card. You’ll typically find the issuer’s name, website, or customer service number. Common issuers include Vanilla Gift Cards (www.vanillagift.com) and My Prepaid Center (www.myprepaidcenter.com).

Then create an account if you don’t already have one. You’ll need to register your gift card by entering the card number, expiration date, and CVV code.

Look for options like “Transfer Funds”, “Send to Bank” or “Add to Bank Account.” If you don’t see these kinds of options, your card may not support bank transfers.

If transfers are supported, you’ll need to provide your bank account details (account number and routing number). It’s as easy as following the prompts to link your account.

Once the link-up is done, enter the full remaining balance and initiate a transfer. Some issuers may charge you a small fee for this kind of transfer.

Suppose you manage to bring the gift card funds into your bank account, it gets easier to load into Cash App via your linked bank.

Or, if you are unable to follow this method check out the gift card to PayPal transfer method.

#2. Add to PayPal and Transfer to Cash App

In this method, you are going to use PayPal as the middleman to transfer gift card balances to Cash App.

In case you don’t already have a PayPal account, sign up for free at www.paypal.com. If you already have an account, simply log in.

Find the wallet section in the app or look for bank and card under the money section.

Under credit and debit cards click on the link a card option.

Link A Card On PayPal

A form appears on the next page where you must enter your Visa gift card details, including the card number, expiration date, and CVV.

Add Visa Gift Card Details

Ensure the billing address on the form matches the one registered with your gift card, just in case you might need to register the card first on the issuer’s website for the linking to go through. In this case, you usually get a message saying “You can’t use your gift card because it lacks personal identifiers“.

PayPal may perform a small test transaction (like a $1 hold) to verify the card. But you will get it refunded within a few days. If that succeeds you can pretty much be sure that the card is linked and you are ready to transfer the balance into your PayPal account.

Next, go to the Wallet section on PayPal and see if there’s an option like “Transfer to PayPal Balance” is available. When you see it just transfer the gift card balance to PayPal.

If not, there’s still a way you can transfer the Visa gift card balance from PayPal to your bank IF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT IS LINKED TO PAYPAL.

Once the funds are in your bank account, you can open Cash App, select Add Cash, and transfer the money to your Cash App balance.

#3. Buy a Money Order

Another way to transfer your Visa gift card balance to the Cash App is by using it to buy a money order. For that, you will have to find a store that sells money orders.

Many places, such as Walmartgrocery storespharmacies, and even post offices, sell money orders. Before you head out, call ahead or check online to confirm that the store accepts Visa gift cards as a payment method.

At the store, let the cashier know you’d like to purchase a money order and provide your Visa gift card like a debit card for payment. Most places also require a government-issued photo ID for money-order purchases.

When requested provide your name as the recipient’s name.

There might be a fee ranging from $1 to $5 so this method is worth trying when you have enough funds in your gift card.

Once you have the money order, you’ll need to endorse it (sign the back) and then deposit it into THE BANK ACCOUNT that is already linked to your Cash App.

When the funds arrive (they typically take 1–3 business days to clear), transfer them to your Cash App.

#4. Sell Your Visa Gift Card For Cash

Apart from using PayPal as your intermediary in funding your Cash app, you can sell your Visa gift card for cash using platforms like Cardtonic, GC Buying, or CardCash.

Cardtonic:

Head over to the Cardtonic app or their website to begin. The interface is user-friendly and straightforward. Find the “sell gift card” option for converting your Visa gift card into cash.

Sell Gift Card

You’ll need to specify the category and subcategory for your card. The platform will guide you through these steps.

Next, enter the value of your gift card, and if you have a physical card, upload clear images of both sides. If it’s a digital card, simply input the redemption code.

After reviewing it, Cardtonic will show you the value of the gift card. Check the terms to ensure everything looks good.

Once you’re satisfied, hit submit. The cash value will be added to your Cardtonic wallet, and you can withdraw it to your bank account. From there you can transfer your cash into Cash App.

FlipEx:

It’s a great alternative for selling your Visa gift cards for the best possible rates.

FlipEx

Download the FlipEx app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. If you prefer using a desktop, visit www.flipexapp.com and click on the “Signup” button.

Then provide your basic details like your name and email address to set up your account. Once you’re done, you’re all set to start trading.

Next, you’ll have to log in and choose the “Sell Gift Cards” option. From the list of options, select Visa Gift Card. Next, swipe through the Visa gift card designs and pick the one that matches the first four digits of your card.

Input the card’s currency, type, and denomination accurately to ensure smooth processing. And input the exact balance on your Visa gift card as well.

Once all details are entered, tap on “Continue” to proceed. Review everything one last time to confirm accuracy. And that’s it! FlipEx will take it from here, converting your Visa gift card into cash. The funds will be deposited directly into your FlipEx wallet.

You can withdraw the cash from your FlipEx wallet into your linked bank account and from there transfer the funds to Cash App whenever you want.

CardCash:

CardCash primarily focuses on store-branded gift cards such as Walmart, Target, etc, which means Visa or Mastercard gift cards might not be eligible for direct sale on their platform. So you need to ensure the eligibility of your card type on CardCash before proceeding.

If it’s eligible, input your gift card information, CardCash will show an offer for your gift card, typically a percentage of its value. Sometimes you get to exchange your card for another gift card. In that case, you can look for an exchange that can be converted easily to cash on CardCash.

After card validation, you can get your funds on PayPal or a bank account from CardCash.

FAQs:

Not all Visa gift cards can be added to the Cash App, since some issuers may not allow it. However, Cash App accepts only traditional debit and credit cards rather than the usual prepaid gift cards.

If your gift card does not have a PIN, it means that you can only use this gift card at a shop or online, which does not require a PIN.

Specifically, there is no fee for adding a gift card. However, Cash App does not officially support linking gift cards directly. Using another service like PayPal or Venmo to transfer the balance of a gift card into Cash App might cost a fee.

Transfer funds usually appear on Cash App instantly, but this is subject to performance charges. Free standard transfers may take one to 3 business days before showing in your account.

To begin, you need to confirm the balance available in your Cash App account to ensure that it is sufficient for the amount you want to spend. Then, check to see whether the mode of payment is linked properly. If after all this the problem is still ongoing, then refer to Cash App’s support service for assistance.
