How to Delete Cash App Account (Step By Step Guide)

Cash App is a free mobile payment app that makes it easy to pay bills, send, and receive money from friends, family, or merchants. In addition, you can buy Bitcoin and other stocks directly within the app.

If you have an existing Cash App account and want to delete it for any reason, it’s essential to transfer your funds to your linked bank account before starting the account deletion process. If you skip this step, any money left in your Cash App balance will be lost once you delete your account.

After you’ve transferred your balance, you can deactivate your Cash App account through your account settings. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the steps to transfer cash app funds to the bank and delete your Cash App account.

Note

While users can delete their Cash App accounts, their payment history remains intact. This is because payment records are considered private information for the account holder and are retained for security and auditing purposes.

Step to Delete Cash App Account

First of all, as I mentioned earlier before you deactivate your Cash App account, make sure to transfer any remaining funds to your bank account! Here’s how you can transfer money from Cash App to your bank account:

  1. Open and log in to the cash app.
  2. Click on the profile icon at the top right corner.
  3. Scroll down a bit & tap on “Linked Banks” and connect the Cash App to your bank.
  4. Once the bank is linked, go to the home page that displays your balance in the app and lets you add cash or cash out.
  5. Tap on the cash-out button.
  6. If your bank account is correctly linked, the remaining balance should automatically arrive in your bank account.

Once your funds have been transferred, you can go ahead and delete your Cash App account. Follow these steps to deactivate it:

  1. Within the app, tap on the profile icon at the top right corner.
  2. Scroll down and tap on support from the list of options on the profile page.
  3. On the next page, you will need to tap on Account & Settings which allows you to manage your profile.
  4. Scrolling down on the next page will reveal the “Close Your Cash App Account” option. Just tap on it.
  5. You will see a consent explaining what happens when closing your Cash App account. Make sure you understand this properly and when you are ready tap on confirm to close your account.
